If you are a new student or wish to change your session time, can you please contact me first through the contact page. This is to ring-fence appointment times for students who have a regular slot. Many thanks.
As you can see on the left, (source: Teacher Pay Scales), a classroom teacher should earn £53,482 per year. This is a higher rate, because it is central London. However, it takes no account of additional responsibilities like being a head of Department and most of my teaching has been done in the central London area. I feel it is a fair basis on which to judge a rate for tuition.
As you can see here, a teacher's directed time is a maximum of 1,265 hours a year. (Source: NEU website - directed time). However, this is not the same as time in front of the students. This is time where the head teacher requires your presence: it can be time for marking, planning, meetings, training and so on. It works out at 6.5 hours a day - much more than is spent in front of the students!
On the left (source: World Economic Forum website), it is clear that hours actually teaching lessons varies greatly across the world. To calculate a fair hourly rate, I therefore have gone by my own experience. I hope this is consistent with students' own experiences. I estimate that I have at least one lesson free a day in a 6 period day. This is a very conservative estimate. So I estimate I would teach for 25 hours a week, 196 days a year. I therefore would teach 196 x 25 = 980 hours a year. Since I am on U3 of the pay scales, my hourly rate as a teacher equates to £53,482 / 980 = £54 an hour.
I am a full time tutor. To run my business, I plan lessons, prepare resources, do training, plus I deal with all the student liaison and administration. I have to purchase my own subscriptions, hardware, marketing, accounting and so forth. I feel it is fair to say my workload is no lighter. So I simply charge the same as I would get (actually slightly less!) as if I was teaching in the classroom. This is £50 per hour. I hope it is a fair price. However, I know that for some people this as a weekly rate is difficult. I therefore have various ways of helping to support all students.
My rates are as follows:
Individual 1-to-1 tuition
£50 per hour
Small group classes (>5 students)
£10 per student
